Book Review: Read and Share Toddler Bible

_140_245_Book.67.coverWhen I received the Read and Share Toddler Bible I didn’t really know what to expect.  The first thing I realized that this book came with a bonus DVD of Bible stories and other features.

I am a parent of a toddler, and I was already feeling good about what the arrival of this book meant.  The truth is that I really do like this toddler bible.  Don’t be mislead – it isn’t an official translation of the bible.  Rather it’s a story-by-story retelling of the major themes of the bible.

Unlike another children’s bible my wife and I had given our children, the way the bible stories were told were more how I would tell a story to my child.  It used a lot of words and expression that you would use to communicate to toddlers like,

“One day the people came to the Red Sea. ‘We’re stuck,’ they said. Moses held up his hand. Whoosh! God made a path right through the water.”

As I thumbed through the children’s bible, I also noticed that the artwork throughout the book was wonderful.  Not too realistic, but not too cartoonish.  One of the things my wife noticed was the little notes throughout the book for parents to help their children understand the story, either through interactive crafts, or just simple reminders of what is the main theme of each story.

Reason #2 I love MGEFC

Church-Exterior

Family.

It’s just that simple.

At Maple Grove Evangelical Free Church, “Family” is not only an atmosphere that exists even within the context of it’s size, but it is a HUGE principle that runs deep in the hearts and intentions of everyone involved.

Without fail, each staff meeting has a moment where we are always asking, “Is this promoting an atmosphere of true family?”

Why?

I think it’s because that’s what this church was built on.  It is the principle the ministry staff members and elders have held on to.

If family isn’t the word that does it for you, then how about these:

Unity

Fellowship

Community

Accountability

Yeah…I love the people I work with and serve!

The Day My Cymbals Were Lost

Zildjian-Cymbals-Custom-A copy

Two K custom cymbals, an A Custom crash, and mastersound hi-hat.

Gone.

I thought they were loaded into my vehicle after our worship service in the park.

I was wrong.

Once  I realized that they were lost, I began to remember…

The shows I played

The sounds they made

How     Much      They      Cost…

I’m not going to lie.  I felt like throwing up.  It was enough to almost make a  grown man cry…ok maybe I DID cry, but who’s keeping score?

Then it was FOUND!

Then I began to remember…

The sheep

The coin

The son

It was enough to almost make a  grown man cry…ok maybe I DID cry, but who’s keeping score?

How do you worship without making a sound?

Go to 1:40 and enjoy!

You’re welcome!

(Thanks to Elissa who sent this to me today!)
